Credit Agency Information

There are 3 major consumer credit reporting agencies in the United States - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.  Their addresses, telephone numbers and websites are listed below.

If you have been turned down for credit because of adverse information on a credit report, you are entitled to a free copy of the credit report that contains the adverse information.  You can then get it corrected if it is wrong.  As a precaution, you should give the correction to all 3 agencies.

Each agency maintains independent files.  This means that it is possible that there will be differences among the agency files, and it is the reason that many lenders get "3-Bureau Merged Reports" on applicants for credit.

Identity fraud is one of the most rapidly growing consumer problems.  You can protect yourself against this crime by checking your credit reports at least once a year, and by keeping your personal information (especially your Social Security number) to yourself.
